With Magnus’s centuries of reputation preceding him, Alec gets pretty used to countless people asking him “You’re married to Magnus Bane? The Magnus Bane?” Alec usually just rolls his eyes, and Magnus doesn’t think much of it.

But in a hundred years or so, someone meets Magnus for the first time and asks, “You were married to Alec Lightwood? The Alec Lightwood?” Because Alec Lightwood is a legend. Alec Lightwood was the first Shadowhunter to really start fighting for Downworlders’ rights. Hell, Alec Lightwood is the reason the Clave finally sanctioned marriage between Shadowhunters and Downworlders. And now this new generation absolutely cannot believe that this random warlock was married to someone as important as Alec Lightwood.
